Mehlville High School School of CharacterMehlville High School has been named a 2023 Missouri School of Character by Character.org.

Criteria for the designation are based on Character.org's 11 Principles of Effective Character Education, which includes providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership and engaging families and communities as partners in character-building efforts.

We truly believe that the traits defined in the 11 principles describe who we are at MHS,” said Dr. Jason Landherr, Mehlville High School principal. “Our application focused on the amazing things that occur in our building each day. It is a team effort from our dedicated staff to our amazing student body."

Founded in 1993, Character.org is a national nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. It works with schools, families, workplaces and other communities to inspire, educate and empower people to be ethical and compassionate citizens. Character.org is composed of character leaders dedicated to individual growth and success through the advancement of quality character development in all schools and communities. The impact of this is seen through improved academic achievement, decline in behavioral problems such as truancy and an increase in an overall positive school climate.

“Through the reapplication process and site visit from Character.org, it was great to hear our students talk about the building culture, how they care for each other, and the support they receive from their teachers, counselors, and the entire staff at MHS” said Dr. Landherr.

Mehlville School District was named a National District of Character in 2019. Mehlville High School was previously designated a State School of Character in 2012 and 2017 and as a National School of Character in 2017.
